Buckingham Mysteries: 274 Fitzpatrick Road
Currently, the 19th century house pictured above is for sale in Buckingham County. Located at 274 Fitzpatrick Road, one real estate listing describes it as “A Diamond in the rough!!”
The listing goes on to say:
This manor style home has been well loved and has great history behind her! Some believe the property to be on old burial grounds . . . . and the house has been known to be haunted . . . however [by] a kind spirit . . .
Does anyone recognize the house? Know its history? Any details about the ghost . . . ?
I am searching for the history of this house when I came across your blog. You may be happy to know I came across another blog this morning where the owner actually commented numerous times and gave a personal history of the house and the reason when they are selling. It was very imformative and a delight to have a first person account instead of just documented history. Here’s the link for anyone insterested: http://www.oldhousedreams.com/2013/08/01/c-1840-greek-revival-buckingham-va/
Many thanks for your comment. I’ll include the link in a followup post.
Joanne,
I spoke with someone who knows the house. She saw it on facebook. She indicated that she intended to respond. I encouraged her to do so. If she doesn’t, I get her number and give her a call. I’ll record her comments, then forward them to you
Anne.
Anne,
That’s great! I’ll let you know if I hear from her.
Joanne
Joanne, I thought your Facebook comments would show up here as well. At any rate 385 acres was patented by Nicholas Lewis in 1760. The house has strong Georgian aspects to it which would put it to at least to the 1850’s. Parts of it could be older.
Thanks, Steven. Facebook comments do not sync here as you have discovered. Thanks for this clue.
Sorry I do n ot know. Have you tracked the land records? Mary

Mary, Thus far I know nothing about the house except its address. Hopefully, someone will recognize it and name the previous owners.
Diamond in the rough is a kindly description. Looks like it was through hurricane Sandy. Anyway to find who the original owners where? Patrick

Patrick — I agree this diamond is in pretty rough shape. Perhaps, a reader of Slate River Ramblings will identify the original owners.
