Looking forward to Vol 2. By the way, have you ever run across the surname Phelps in your Buckingham travels/research. My line came from that area but there’s not a lot of info about them until they migrate into what is now Appomattox. We know they came from Albemarle. Due to burn counties, we have some gaps in our research. My other surnames for that area are : Harris, Coleman, Burge, and Moore.
Thanks,
Kathie
Kathie, Thanks for writing. As it so happens, I too am a Phelps from Buckingham County. My ancestor is Diana Phelps who married Alexander Smith in about 1760. My branch of the Smith family settled near Bent Creek in what is now Appomattox County. Joanne
I know of Diana Phelps Smith ( Phelps Falls). Both of my great grandparents were descendants of this same group of Phelps. There was also one other group of Phelps in this area in the late 1700’s but they are of a different line of Phelps- genetically different. Many confuse the two lines because of similar naming patterns. Did descendants of your Harris line end up in the Appomattox area also?
Thanks,
Kathie
